The Post-Autistic Economics (PAE) Review has published an intriguing policy proposal by Joseph E. Stiglitz in its May 18, 2007, issue no. 42, pp. 48-49. The proposal is called “Prizes Not Patents.” Stiglitz, a former neoliberal authority, is now a prominent critic of neoliberalism. In this short PAE essay, he argues that the patent system drives a socially-irrational drug market in the US, and Stiglitz proposes reforming the drug production incentive system.
